MIGRATION ROUTES
It isn't just dams that cut off migration routes. Often, unprincipled development is to blame.
Roads and railroad lines cut across streams, creeks and cricks, leaving just a culvert pipe for water to run through.
Unless constructed properly, culverts are barriers that block the migration paths of outgoing smolts and returning adults.
Fish First has opened up miles of habitat by replacing such defective culverts with ones that mimic the stream bottom.
